The inspiration for the YEOHLEE Spring 2007 collection comes from two sources; her involvement in an unprecedented exhibition titled Skin + Bones : Parallel Practices in Fashion and Architecture at the MOCA in LA and her visit to the Schindler House while out West. "I am mining LA of the 20's and the 30's, particularly the Schindlers and their Bohemian lifestyle exemplified by the communal living at the Studio House on King's Road.
Brooke Hodge, Curator of Architecture and Design at the MOCA says "Like Schindler, Yeohlee transforms materials and forms in unexpected ways to create something that is utterly new and fresh." Yeohlee's focus is on reducing the number of fabrics used and exploring to the maximum the innate potential within each of the materials. There is a minimal amount of construction and sewing in Looks # 13, 16 and 26. Their shapes and forms rely on innovative cuts and the structure of the fabric.
Yeohlee chose natural fibres as her core medium with an abundance of cotton, linen and silk. The weight and weave of these yarns are what gives the materials their structure, lustre and sheen. The color palette is light and bright, consisting mostly of unexpected textures in white and black. Two finishes are striking within the collection: decorative, as in the mirrored effect in Looks # 17, 18, and 24 and functional in the broad use of Teflon® on all whites.
For YEOHLEE Spring 2007 is a celebration of purity and simplicity and the little girl within the sophisticated woman.
